WHAT IS COACHING?

Coaching is a partnership between client and coach that helps the client establish and then achieve tangible goals in a particular area of their life.


At its core, coaching is based on the fundamental assumption that every person is inherently resourceful and creative; honoring the client as the expert of her/his life. Through the coaching process, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life.

COACHING IS NOT...

  • Counseling, consulting or mentoring

  • Only for executives or professionals

  • Advice-lending or “hand-holding” accountability

  • A “friend for hire”

  • A substitute for mental health, legal or other professional treatment/services

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING AND COUNSELING?

This question, in my opinion, is one of the most frequently asked questions I receive. Although many would think that there are few differences between them, there are actually many. To make the distinctions clear, I’ve listed them as a comparison below:

In Coaching…                                                                    ​

  • The starting point is mental and emotional health

  • Questions are meant to promote discovery

  • The focus is on the present and future

  • The result is intentional action 

In Counseling…​

  • The starting point is mental and emotional trauma 

  • Questions are meant to diagnose

  • The focus is on the past and present

  • The result is understanding and acceptance 

HOW LONG ARE SESSIONS?

Sessions will not exceed one hour in length.

WHERE WILL THE SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?

Most sessions will be conducted via phone or in person (if possible).

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE A SESSION?

Any cancellations or rescheduling sessions need to be done 24 hours in advance. Cancellations without at least a 24 hour notice will not be refunded.

CAN I BOOK A FREE CONSULTATION?

Yes! The consultation is meant to be an opportunity to get to know one another, and assess whether we would make good partners as client and coach. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask any questions about the coaching process.
